Category B: Vocal Solos

  • All competitions in this category include a Preliminary and a Final round

B1. Pendine International Voice of the Future (Prelim: Friday 8 July & Final: Saturday evening concert ). Supported by Pendine Park.

This competition is open to singers aged 20 to 32 on the first day of the competitions. This prestigious prize is intended to advance the career of a young soloist. The competition will be held over two days. Competitors are required to perform a contrasting programme of up to 7 minutes of music for the Preliminary round and up to 10 minutes of music for the Final round. The contrasting programme for both rounds must be chosen from the areas of Oratorio, Opera, Lieder or Song. Competitors are encouraged to vary the programme in the final round. All music must be sung in the original language. Competitors must use the Eisteddfod official piano accompanists for this competition.Prizes:1st Pendine Trophy and £3,000 as well as further opportunities to perform in concerts in the Eisteddfod and other venues. There will also be a runner-up prize of £1,500.

B2. Voice of Musical Theatre (Prelim: Thursday 7 July & Final: Friday 8 July)

This competition is open to singers aged 19 to 30 on the first day of the competitions. This prestigious prize is intended to advance the career of a young musical theatre performer. The competition will be held over two days. Competitors are required to perform a contrasting programme of up to 7 minutes of music for the Preliminary round and up to 10 minutes of music for the Final round. The contrasting programme for both rounds must be chosen from the musical theatre genre. All music must be sung in the original language. Competitors must use the Eisteddfod official piano accompanists for this competition. Prize: International Medal and £1,500

B3. Vocal Solo 16 – 19 (Prelim & Final: Friday 8 July)

This competition is open to singers aged 16 to 19 on the first day of the competitions. Competitors are required to perform a programme of up to 7 minutes of music. All music must be sung in the original language. All competitors must use the Eisteddfod official piano accompanists for this competition. Prizes: 1st: International Medal and £150, 2nd: £100, 3rd: £50

B4. Vocal Solo 12 – 15 (Friday 8 July)

This competition is open to singers aged 12 to 15 on the first day of the competitions. Competitors are required to perform a programme of up to 5 minutes of music. All music must be sung in the original language. All competitors must use the Eisteddfod official piano accompanists for this competition. Prizes: 1st: International Medal and £150, 2nd: £100, 3rd: £50
