  • Successful Applicants will be notified before 12 December 2014
  • Each choir is expected to undertake an additional public performance on either our outside stages on the Eisteddfod field or at other local venues

 

A1. Mixed Choirs (Saturday 11 July, 2015)

A mixed choir of no fewer than 16 voices, the majority of singers must be age 18 and over. Each choir should prepare a contrasting programme of up to 12 minutes of music which must include at least one unaccompanied work and original work composed by a composer from the choir’s native country.

Prizes: 1st Trophy +£1000, 2nd £500, 3rd £200

 

A2. Youth Choirs (Thursday 9 July, 2015)

This category is open to male, female or mixed youth choirs with a minimum of 16 voices. All singers must be aged 16 to 25 on the day of the competition. Each choir should prepare a contrasting programme of up to 12 minutes of music which must include at least one unaccompanied work and original work composed by a composer from the choir’s native country.

Prizes: 1st Trophy +£1000, 2nd £500, 3rd £200

 

A3. Female Choirs (Saturday 11 July, 2015)

Female voice only choirs of no fewer than 16 voices; the majority of singers must be age 18 and over. Each choir should prepare a contrasting programme of up to 12 minutes of music which must include at least one unaccompanied work and original work composed by a composer from the choir’s native country.

Prizes: 1st Trophy +£1000, 2nd £500, 3rd £200

 

A4. Male Voice Choirs (Saturday 11 July, 2015)

Male voice only choirs of no fewer than 16 voices; the majority of singers must be age 18 and over. Each choir should prepare a contrasting programme of up to 12 minutes of music which must include at least one unaccompanied work and original work composed by a composer from the choir’s native country.

Prizes: 1st Trophy +£1000, 2nd £500, 3rd £200

 

A5. Open Category (Friday 10 July 2015)

A choir of no fewer than 16 voices, and there are no upper or lower age limits in this category. It’s ideal for singing groups which include children and adults and also those choirs that specialise in a particular cultural tradition or style of repertoire (i.e. barbershop, pop, show, glee, jazz, gospel, etc.) Each choir should prepare a contrasting programme within their specific genre of up to 12 minutes of music which must include at least one unaccompanied work.

Prizes: 1st Trophy +£1000, 2nd £500, 3rd £200

 

Winners of the above categories A1 to A5 go forward to compete for the prestigious Choir of the World: Pavarotti Trophy competition

 

A6. Barbershop (Saturday 11 July, 2015)

A chorus of no fewer than 16 voices. A contrasting programme consisting of up to 11 minutes of music, to be performed in pure Barbershop style.

Prizes: 1st International Trophy and £500, 2nd £300, 3rd £150

 

A7. Adult Folk Song Choirs (Friday 10 July, 2015)

A Choir of up to 50 voices, mixed or equal voice. Two choral arrangements of well-contrasted traditional folk songs of the singers’ own country, performed in a classical manner. The total duration of the songs chosen must not exceed 6 minutes.

Prizes: 1st International Trophy and £500, 2nd £300, 3rd £150

 

A8. Junior Children’s Choir (Tuesday 7 July 2015)

A choir of no more than 80 voices, 12 years of age and under on the day of the competition. Choir must prepare a contrasting programme of up to 7 minutes of music which must include the test piece “Every Voice as one” / “Pob llais ynghyd” by Gareth Glyn (available to download as a PDF file here). Scores are available to buy from Active Music Services.

Prizes: 1st International trophy + £500, 2nd £300, 3rd £150

 

A9. Senior Children’s Choir (Wednesday 8 July 2015)

A choir of no more than 80 voices, 12 – 18 years of age inclusive on the day of the competition. Choir must prepare a contrasting programme of up to 7 minutes of music which must include an original work by a living composer.

Prizes: 1st International trophy + £500, 2nd £300, 3rd £150

 

A10. Children’s Folk Song Choir (Wednesday 8 July 2015)

A choir of no more than 80 voices, 18 years of age and under on the day of the competition. Two choral arrangements of well-contrasted traditional folk songs of the singers’ own country, performed in a classical manner. The total duration of the songs chosen must not exceed 6 minutes.

Prizes: 1st International trophy + £500, 2nd £300, 3rd £150

How to Apply

Each choir is required to forward the following by the 21 November 2014:

  • Completed application form
  • A recent recording (CD,DVD or MP3 file – see application pages for full details)
  • A short history of the choir and conductor (English Text Max. 300 words)
  • Entry fee of £100 per group (Non-refundable)
  • A recent photograph in jpeg format
